Aston Villa can maintain 10-year Villa Park record when they face Burnley

Aston Villa will take on Burnley at Villa Park on Sunday as they look to enter the international break with a flourish.

Goals from Emi Buendia and John McGinn saw Villa beat Feyenoord 2-0 on Thursday, in what was their third consecutive victory.

It has been a strong period of recovery from Unai Emery‘s side, with any immediate pressure on the Spaniard’s job now off.

Villa are favourites against Burnley, with Scott Parker’s team sitting 18th in the Premier League after a difficult start.

Burnley have not won at Villa Park since 2015

Despite a tough start to the season, Burnley have looked competitive on their return to the Premier League.

The Clarets have already played Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City, and save for capitulation at the Etihad Stadium, have held their own.

Parker’s side dominated the early exchanges against Thomas Frank’s side and could have gone ahead, whilst Manchester United needed a 97th-minute penalty to secure the three points at Old Trafford.

The same can be said of Premier League champions Liverpool, who only managed to find the breakthrough against 10-man Burnley when Hannibal Mejbri foolishly raised his arm to block a cross in the final seconds.

But Villa boast a strong record against the Clarets, and will be in good spirits going into Sunday’s game.

Burnley have not won at Villa Park since May 2015, when Danny Ings scored a 6th-minute winner to give the already-relegated visitors a 1-0 win.

Villa must be wary of Burnley danger man

The Burnley danger man undoubtedly comes in the form of Jaidon Anthony. The winger has netted four times in the Premier League this season, and has provided an assist.

When given the space to run at his defender, the 25-year-old is a serious threat, and will likely be faced up against Matty Cash on the left of the Burnley attack.

Villa can neutralise the Englishman if they cut out the supply to him, however, with McGinn and Boubacar Kamara set for key roles in the midfield up against Parker’s usual three.
