Marco Bizot reveals the truth about Emi Martinez injury amid last-minute Aston Villa switch

Marco Bizot was sensational as Aston Villa secured a 2-0 win over Feyenoord on Thursday.

Bizot signed for Villa from Brest in the summer and has already made five appearances under Unai Emery.

The Dutchman came into the starting 11 in shock fashion as Villa secured a 2-0 win against Feyenoord in the Europa League.

Emi Martinez dropped out of the Villa side to face Feyenoord with little notice, leaving Villa fans surprised to see the 34-year-old in the line-up pre-match.

Bizot has now spoken out himself to confirm the details of the situation with Martinez that ended with him putting in a superb shift at De Kuip.

Marco Bizot clarifies Emi Martinez situation vs Feyenoord

Martinez was strongly linked to Manchester United in the summer, but there doesn’t appear to be any ill feeling from any party off the back of this.

The Argentina international started against Fulham last time out in what was a largely anonymous performance at Villa Park.

It was little surprise to see him named from the start in the Netherlands, but it was to see him missing out as the Villa players entered the pitch to face Robin van Persie’s side.

Many questions have been asked about the reason behind the 33-year-old’s absence, with a general lack of clarification so far.

This has now been offered by Bizot, who spoke live via TNT Sports 3 on 2 October, following his man-of-the-match performance in his homeland.

He said: “I think he felt something during the warm-up. I saw him early speaking with the officials and the goalkeeper coach told me, ‘He’s going inside to go check, do your thing, do a warm up and just be ready.’ That’s what I did.

I’m happy that I can help the team, and if it is in this way, I will do everything I can and just do my job.

There were initial concerns in the Netherlands when the ex-Arsenal man dropped out.

Villa fans had no reason to worry as Bizot put in a fantastic performance to keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 win.

The Dutchman made eight saves and maintained an 88 per cent pass accuracy, keeping Villa in the game and helping secure a huge victory.
