Aston Villa legend left furious by ‘strange’ moment in Aston Villa win vs Feyenoord
Aston Villa secured victory away to Feyenoord, but the result didn’t come without controversy.
Unai Emery’s side have made it three wins from three in all competitions after a 1-0 Villa win over Fulham last time out in the Premier League.
Villa followed this up by beating Feyenoord at De Kuip on Thursday in their second Europa League win in as many games.
Emi Buendia – after exit links away from Villa – opened the scoring with an excellent curling effort into the bottom corner.
John McGinn then went on to score and secure a 2-0 win, not that the claret and blue faithful can forget the annoyance of the first half.

Stiliyan Petrov left raging by Feyenoord vs Aston Villa controversy
Emi Martinez dropped out of Villa’s squad to face Feyenoord at the final second in what came as a hugely frustrating blow.
Things didn’t get much better in the opening exchanges as Feyenoord somehow managed to dodge a red card after just 13 minutes.
Anel Ahmedhodzic brought down Ollie Watkins in a last-man challenge and was initially shown a yellow card.
Referee Rade Obrenovic was sent to the VAR monitor before opting to stick with his initial decision in a hugely shocking fashion.
Former Villa captain and club legend Stiliyan Petrov couldn’t believe his eyes as he spoke out live via TNT Sports 3 on 2 October.
He said: “It’s definitely a red card. I don’t know what the referee was thinking. It’s a clear red card and it’s a really strange decision.
“The referee has gone to see it, but I don’t know what he’s seen. The defender is on the wrong side. I think it’s a really poor decision.“
Owen Hargreaves in full agreement with Petrov
There is no way that a last-man challenge on a striker going through on goal can be seen as anything but a straight red card.
Somehow, Obrenovic saw things differently as he opted to hand out a yellow card before opting against changing his mind.
It is little surprise that Petrov would be so frustrated by this decision, and the Bulgarian has had his feelings vindicated.
Co-host on TNT Sports 3, Owen Hargreaves echoed the thoughts of the former Villa midfielder, saying: “He’s the last man. It’s a red card. I don’t know how he hasn’t seen it. Ahmedhodzic is a very lucky man to stay on the pitch.”
This sums up how poor of a decision it was, but the Villans won’t care now they’ve secured a 2-0 away win against a top side.
