Feyenoord vs Aston Villa: Three stars who have played for both ahead of Europa League clash
Aston Villa travel to Robin Van Persie’s Feyenoord for their next Europa League tie.
Jadon Sancho was ill for Aston Villa’s clash with Fulham and could be made to watch from the sidelines again on Thursday night.
Elsewhere, Emi Buendia looks set to start for Unai Emery’s side after he came off the bench at half-time and helped himself to a goal against the Cottagers in a 3-1 win.
With a clash with Feyenoord ahead, there is a surprising amount of similarity between Villa and the Dutch side, with multiple players having represented both sides.

Lamare Bogarde
The Netherlands has been a strong hunting ground in the past for the Villans, with Anwar El Ghazi a product of the Ajax academy before heading to the Midlands.
Lamare Bogarde has been a bright spark for Aston Villa this season, after coming through the academy.
However, the midfielder came through Feyenoord’s youth setup before making the switch to England.
- Bogarde completed 97% of his passes in the game against Everton earlier in the season
- The midfielder has been a bright spark and won 9/12 of his duels against the Toffees
The 21-year-old grew up in Rotterdam and joined the Dutch giants’ academy in 2020 before joining Aston Villa one year later.
Bogarde had loan spells with Bristol Rovers before breaking into the first team last season and becoming a regular during the 2025/26 campaign.

Ron Vlaar
Ron Vlaar joined Aston Villa in 2012, with big expectations on the Dutch international’s shoulders.
Feyenoord struggled during his six seasons in his homeland, as they were consistently beaten by Ajax.
Despite his injury troubles, Vlaar was one of the key elements to them finishing second in the 2011/12 season, which earned him a move to Villa.
The 40-year-old joined the Villans under Paul Lambert, with successive 15th placed finishes followed by a 17th placed finish.
Lambert’s final season at Villa Park turned sour, with supporters turning on the Villans after a slow start to the 2014/15 season.
Vlaar struggled during the campaign and was moved on to AZ Alkmaar at the end of the season, where he retired in 2021.

Zepiqueno Redmond
Villa’s focus over the summer turned to developing their youth setup, with senior signings hard to come by.
Zepiqueno Redmond was signed from Feyenoord before being loaned out to League One side Huddersfield.
Redmond scored 16 goals in 43 games for the Feyenoord under-18s before making the switch to the Premier League, and is regarded as a top prospect for the future.
- Redmond joined Villa on a free transfer in the summer
- The 19-year-old signed a four-year contract with the Villans
The striker has gotten off to a strong start in League One, having already scored his first goal for the Terriers.
It is likely that he could again be loaned next summer to the Championship, and he could follow the likes of Jhon Duran in becoming Villa’s next top youngster.
