Harvey Elliott brutally slammed as ‘average’ as Aston Villa told what signing is needed instead

Harvey Elliott is yet to truly make an impact since signing for Aston Villa.

Elliott signed on loan for Villa from Liverpool on deadline day in what was seen as a much-needed attacking signing at Villa Park.

This saw the England Under-21 international come in alongside Jadon Sancho on a temporary deal from Manchester United.

Neither have truly been given a chance under Unai Emery, besides in the Carabao Cup, where Villa lost on penalties to Brentford in their opening game of the tournament.

Elliott has now come under heavy scrutiny in B6, with his addition seen as a potential error after such a terrible start to the campaign.

This article includes exclusive comments from former Aston Villa employee Bryan King.

Harvey Elliott signing under fire at Aston Villa

Owen Hargreaves compared Elliott to Martin Odegaard in midweek, but so far the Villa fans are yet to see how good he can be.

This is largely due to a lack of trust from Emery, restricting the attacking midfielder to just 118 minutes wearing claret and blue.

Harvey Elliott hasn’t featured for Aston Villa since his cameo vs Sunderland

The 22-year-old has already scored a goal for the Villans, but it is fair to say that he truly isn’t rated too high at Bodymoor Heath right now.

Ex-scout Bryan King has echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Elliott isn’t what Villa needed in the transfer market after a difficult summer, urging them to instead bring in “another Morgan Rogers or Ollie Watkins”.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, King said: “He’s a talented little player.

“Elliott is a good player, but he isn’t going to win Aston Villa trophies. I think his impact is average for me.

You’re looking for Villa to bring in another Morgan Rogers or Ollie Watkins, somebody of that calibre.

“I think Villa could have a difficult season, to be honest.”

Aston Villa need higher-quality signings than Harvey Elliott

It does feel as if the B6 club have taken a step back in recent months, having been a true competitor in the Champions League last season.

This saw star players like Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford shine, before the duo ultimately departed at the end of their loan spells.

They were ultimately replaced by Sancho and Elliott, with the latter coming under fire early on in his Villa Park spell.

It isn’t the fault of the Liverpool loanee that the Villans are in a tricky position, but it is fair to say that his addition does sum up the worry around Emery’s squad right now.
