Aston Villa can put their season back on track with impressive record vs Brentford

Aston Villa go in search of their first win of the season against Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

Having qualified for the Europa League, the Villans were given a bye into the third round, which offers a welcome relief from the Premier League.

Harvey Elliott could make his first start for Aston Villa against the Bees after he came on for the final 20 minutes of the 0-0 draw with Everton.

Villa will be hoping they can continue their strong record against Keith Andrews’ side, which could help them get back on track.

Aston Villa have lost just five of their 23 games vs Brentford

Ollie Watkins, who was linked with a move to Newcastle in the summer, could feature against his former club, where he spent three seasons.

Aston Villa have already lost 1-0 to Brentford last month, and will be hoping to get their revenge at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Villans remain the only side in England’s top seven divisions yet to score, but they have an ideal opportunity to put that right in the Carabao Cup.

Villa have won ten and drawn eight of their 23 fixtures against Brentford.

Aston Villa’s record vs Brentford

Prior to last month’s game, the Villans were unbeaten in their previous six against their opponents.

Unai Emery’s side did the double over the Bees last season, winning 1-0 away in March and 3-1 at home in December 2024.

How did Aston Villa do in the Carabao Cup last season?

Last season, Emery’s side only managed to make it to the fourth round.

Villa were again given a bye into the third round, where they beat League One side Wycombe 2-1 thanks to goals from Jhon Duran and Emi Buendia.

They went on to lose 2-1 to Crystal Palace, who made it to the quarter finals.

It will be interesting to see how Emery lines up for the fixture with Brentford and whether he will choose to focus on the Premier League.

Since 2020/21, the Villans haven’t made it beyond the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, and it feels like a cup run is well overdue.
