Troy Deeney slaughters one ‘terrible’ Aston Villa star after what he saw vs Everton

Troy Deeney hasn’t been shy in slamming Aston Villa after a poor display against Everton.

The Villans would have been hoping for a positive display after the international break, after Villa fell to a 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace last time around.

It is fair to say that Unai Emery didn’t see much of an improvement from his side as David Moyes’ men dominated large spells.

There was little positivity to speak of for the away side as the returning Villa keeper Emi Martinez was forced into a number of top saves throughout the clash in L4.

This lack of positivity wasn’t lost on ex-forward Deeney as the former Birmingham City spoke out in less than glowing terms about the claret and blue outfit.

Troy Deeney slates Tyrone Mings vs Everton

There is no getting away from the fact that the Toffees looked the much better side throughout the opening stages of the clash at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Chances were plentiful for the home side, with new Everton star and Premier League Player of the Month, Jack Grealish, coming close to netting against his old side.

This was thanks in part to a poor defensive display from the Villans, with long balls causing particular problems for Ezri Konsa and Mings.

It is the latter who came under particular pressure from Beto, the man who came closest to scoring for the Blues in the early stages on Merseyside.

This saw the England international come under scrutiny from Deeney as he offered a review mid-way through the first half via talkSPORT on 13 September.

He said: “Everton have been on the front foot, making sure that they get everything up for this crowd and themselves.

“Villa are still very narrow, defending on the full-backs, and Tyrone Mings has had a terrible, terrible start to the game.”

Aston Villa must turn it around after Everton draw

At half time, it was another 45 minutes gone, another half of football without scoring a goal for Aston Villa.

This continued, and it is now four without a goal, the first time in the B6 club’s history they have achieved such a feat.

Of every team in the top six divisions of English football, it is only Emery’s side who have not found the net at this stage of the campaign.

This had to change in the second half against the Toffees as Villa risked being left behind in the Premier League after just four matches, but they couldn’t trouble Pickford and Co.

More was needed from Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers, with plenty of pressure set to be piled on the shoulders of the Villans moving forward.
