Aston Villa player ratings v Everton: Emi Martinez stuns as 3/10 dud stinks again

Aston Villa have gone without a win once again after sharing the points with Everton on Saturday.

Villa travelled to face Everton away from home on 13 September and once again struggled in attacking areas as a frustrated Unai Emery watched on.

Emi Buendia surprisingly started for Villa and arguably came closest for the Villa Park club as his second-half effort looped just wide of Jordan Pickford’s goal.

This was as close as the claret and blue outfit came despite a better performance after the half-time interval on Merseyside.

It was certainly better from Villa than the Crystal Palace defeat at home, but not the positive result that the Villans would have wanted.

Now, Villa News rates each player’s performance out of 10.

Emi Martinez best of a bad bunch vs Everton

The claret and blue faithful may not want to hear it, but without the Argentina international, Everton would have secured an easy win.

After strong links away from Villa for Martinez to join Manchester United, many supporters in B6 didn’t want to see the keeper start in L4.

Emery opted to bring him back in, a decision which ultimately helped the away side to keep the Blues at bay with a number of top stops.

Martinez made two saves throughout the 90 minutes and also completed 15 short and 5 long passes, which can’t be overlooked.

On his return to action, it was the perfect display to help endear himself to the annoyed Villa fanbase.

Morgan Rogers poor again for Aston Villa

There is no hiding away from the fact that Rogers was superb for England in their 5-0 win over Serbia.

It is clear that this showing hasn’t translated onto the pitch in claret and blue.

The 23-year-old failed to create a single chance as Rogers somehow remained on the pitch, even with Donyell Malen, Evann Guessand, and Harvey Elliott coming on.

Having failed to really test Jordan Pickford with his only effort on goal, while also losing seven duels, it was another bad day at the office for the attacking midfielder.
