Matty Cash suffers ‘severe’ injury as details revealed by Poland manager

Aston Villa have been handed another injury blow ahead of their game against Everton this weekend.

Matty Cash picked up an injury whilst on international duty, which could open the door for Victor Lindelof to make his Villa debut.

Cash has started all three of Villa’s games so far in the new Premier League campaign, but Unai Emery could be without the right back ahead of Villa’s trip to face Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

Poland manager Jan Urban revealed the extent of the defender’s injury after he was taken off at half-time during their 3-1 win against Finland on Sunday.

Jan Urban forced to take Matty Cash off after the defender was ‘limping’

Despite Cash being linked with a return to Nottingham Forest in the summer, the move did ultimately not materialise, and the 28-year-old looks set to be a key member of Emery’s squad.

Prior to his injury, Cash scored for Poland in an eventful first half for the defender.

However, this was quickly overshadowed by the knock he picked up.

Speaking in the post-game press conference, Cash’s international manager, Urban, had this to say regarding the defender’s injury.

“He suffered a severe bruise from the foul, after which he was assisted by doctors and physiotherapists. It was a typical knee strike to the quadriceps muscle. The longer you run with something like that, the more it starts to harden,” he said.

“He was already limping at the end of the first half.

“Despite this, he wanted to continue playing. I personally convinced him to make a substitution. I substituted him at half-time, and I think it was a good decision, both mine and his, as he agreed to be substituted.

“Well, he wouldn’t have lasted much longer. I’ve had injuries like that myself. It’s only a matter of time before you can’t run anymore.”

Who else is a doubt for Aston Villa against Everton?

It may not be injury-related, but Emi Martinez’s antics as he attempted to push through a move to Manchester United may see Emery favour Marco Bizot in goal again.

The Villans will also likely be without former Everton midfielders Andre Onana and Ross Barkley, whilst Boubacar Kamara is also expected to be missing from Villa’s engine room this weekend.

Andres Garcia is also out injured, and Villa supporters will be hoping for some positive updates on these players and their fitness in Emery’s press conference later this week.
