Aston Villa could kickstart season vs Everton after brilliant trend emerges that has last years

Aston Villa are looking to kickstart their Premier League season with a win against Everton after the international break.

Villa are the only team in England’s top four leagues who have yet to score, which will concern Unai Emery.

The addition of Harvey Elliott for Aston Villa will relieve their issues up front, and with a full two weeks of training under his belt, he could replicate his goalscoring form from over the summer.

However, Aston Villa struggled in their opening 2024/25 Premier League games, and their game against the Toffees offers the perfect opportunity to get back up and running.

Aston Villa have lost just once in their last 13 games vs Everton

Elliott is expected to start against Everton after he showed his capabilities with England’s under-21s over the summer.

The forward guided his nation to the European Championships again, and his overall U21 goals record surpassed that of Alan Shearer, as he notched five goals in the tournament.

Elliott will be looking to replicate his own fine record and Villa’s run of results against the Toffees.

The 22-year-old has won two of his four games against the Blues, and the Villans have lost just once in their last 13 games.

Last season, Aston Villa did the double over Everton, winning 1-0 away and 3-2 at Villa Park.

The Villans’ only defeat in their last 13 games against the Toffees came in the Carabao Cup in the 2023/24 season as they lost 2-1 at home in the third round.

Unai Emery has completely transformed Aston Villa

Villa’s form against Everton is a mark of how far they have come under Emery.

Before the Spaniard, a win against Premier League regulars was rare, but it is now a common occurrence.

Emery boasts a win rate of 59 per cent with Villa, and despite the slow start, there is no doubt that he will begin to find wins again.

The game against the Toffees will be the perfect opportunity to do so, with new signings having settled in.

Equally, the disruption regarding Emi Martinez’s failed move to Manchester United has died down, meaning the focus won’t be on any off-pitch antics.
