Matty Cash shares honest verdict on Aston Villa future after mooted Nottingham Forest return
Matty Cash was linked with a move away from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window but ultimately remained at Villa Park.
Nottingham Forest made a move to sign Cash, but Villa thwarted any attempts from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The 28-year-old is in Unai Emery’s plans this season, and Aston Villa are set to open talks with Cash and his defensive teammate, Pau Torres, over signing a new contract.
Now that the dust has settled following the closing of the transfer window, the right-back has opened up on the speculation.

‘I love playing for Villa’ – Matty Cash opens up on Aston Villa exit talk
The final week was busy for the Villans, with plenty of incomings and outgoings.
Harvey Elliott joined Aston Villa on loan on deadline day, in a statement signing that includes an option to buy.
Emery lost Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle for £40million, and other key players had offers submitted for them.
The Villans prioritised keeping Cash, despite links to moves elsewhere, and he has now explained why he didn’t entertain any offers.
Speaking to PA, he said: “I’ve loved my time at Villa for the last five years, and hopefully I can have many years still at the club. I love the club, I’m really settled in Birmingham.
“If you’ve got clubs coming in for you, it’s obviously a good sign. But I love playing for Villa. I love playing under Unai and, hopefully, for many years I can keep doing that.

“We’re the ones that are out there on the pitch. Our jobs as players, we get paid to perform on the pitch, and that’s all we can do.
“We’ve got a good, strong group. We’re very close together as a team. So it’s important to have that.
“We’ve done well because I think the squad has togetherness, and in tough times like this, obviously, you need to stick together. You need to be a group and a squad, and I think we’ve done that.”

How long will Matty Cash’s new Aston Villa contract last?
Villa are looking to extend Cash’s contract in the coming months.
His existing stint with the Villans runs until 2027, but Emery is keen on keeping him for longer.
The 28-year-old could sign an extension that keeps him in the Midlands until 2029.
It is unlikely that Cash will play for Villa for another four years, but a new contract would allow them to get a fee for the Poland international in the future.
Given Cash’s performance for Poland against the Netherlands, his new contract will be the main objective after the international break to ward off any potential suitors.
