What will happen next with Emi Martinez at Aston Villa after failed Manchester United move
Emi Martinez’s saga took plenty of twists and turns on deadline day as he ended up staying at Aston Villa.
Martinez had been trying to force a move to Manchester United and wasn’t part of the squad that faced Crystal Palace due to his antics.
United ended up signing Aston Villa target Senne Lammens instead of the Argentine, leaving him in the transfer equivalent of no man’s land.
Martinez was offered to Galatasaray, but chose not to move to Turkey, but whether he ever plays again for Villa is the question.

Aston Villa happy to continue with Emi Martinez
It’s been claimed Aston Villa could explore the free agent market for a new keeper, with Rui Patricio and Lukasz Fabianski available.
Sticking with Marco Bizot doesn’t seem reasonable, given his poor performance in the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
However, a shock has now emerged, with Villa happy to carry on with Martinez, according to Fabrizio Romano on X.
Timeline of Martinez’s actions:
- January 2025: Contact made between Martinez’s representatives and Manchester United
- May 2025: Martínez appears emotional during Aston Villa’s final home game, waving to the fans
- Summer 2025: Manchester United makes a loan inquiry that is rejected by Aston Villa.
- August 31, 2025: Martínez is left out of the Aston Villa squad for their match against Crystal Palace.
The Argentine is not keen on a Turkish league move and is prepared to stay at Villa.
It had been wondered whether Martinez would ever play again for the Villans following the fallout from the Palace game.
Supporters expected that it would take a major apology from the 33-year-old if he ever wanted to play again for Villa.
However, Unai Emery can’t afford to be picky, given their lack of squad depth.
Aston Villa will be stuck between two minds with Emi Martinez
There is the threat that should Emery bed Martinez back into the side, he could replicate his actions in the January transfer window.
Alternatively, the Villans can’t afford to stick with Bizot if he is going to continue his poor form in goal.
Rolling over to Martinez and allowing him to go straight back to being their number one without a sincere apology can’t be tolerated.
