Emi Martinez takes truly shameful step to instigate Manchester United transfer
Aston Villa had a dramatic transfer deadline day after a lacklustre window up until that point.
Jadon Sancho joined Villa on loan to bolster Unai Emery’s options out wide.
Harvey Elliott soon followed him through the door, with the midfielder completing an initial loan move from Liverpool that can be turned into a permanent deal next summer.
However, one of the biggest transfer sagas at Villa Park involved Emi Martinez, who ultimately stayed put in B6.

Aston Villa supporters will be furious as Emi Martinez antics revealed
Martinez, who has just turned 33 on 2 September, the day after deadline day, was evidently hoping to celebrate the occasion while wearing another club’s shirt, but this is not the case.
Martinez was absent during Villa’s loss to Crystal Palace over the weekend, with new signing Marco Bizot starting in between the sticks.
However, after crying on the final day of last season as he appeared to be leaving, Martinez’s proposed move to Manchester United never came to fruition, despite the shot stoppers seemingly looking to push the move through.
According to The Athletic on September 1, Martinez spent the final day of the window at Villa’s training ground waiting for a call.
Not only that, he is said to have reached out to Argentina teammate Lisandro Martinez seemingly in the hope of instigating contact from United’s part.
- Emery was evidently furious with Martinez’s antics after he did not play against Palace
- The Spaniard simply repeated “Marco Bizot” when asked about Martinez’s future before Villa’s 3-0 loss to Palace
- It is unclear how Emery will handle the situation regarding Martinez moving forward.
Ultimately, this call never came as Martinez could be set for an awkward reintroduction back into the Villa squad.
Aston Villa shoud’ve sold Emi Martinez
With the goalkeeper now deep into his thirties and evidently not wanting to be at the club, cashing in on Martinez this summer would’ve been a wise move.
Selling Martinez would’ve also helped ease any potential PSR concerns the club may have had over the summer.
This is all in the past, and Emery must decide what he is going to do with Martinez moving forward.
With it being a World Cup year, the Argentina international has no option but to play in the current campaign, but whether Emery will allow him to is an entirely different proposition.
Before Martinez is given the privilege of being able to represent Villa again, Emery must force him to apologise publicly and prove his commitment in training before he is reinstated as the club’s first-choice shot stopper.
