Possible shirt number and wage revealed as Aston Villa plot Jadon Sancho transfer
Aston Villa are exploring an intriguing move for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho.
Plenty of cracks were on display in Aston Villa’s 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, with their attack being notably quiet so far this season.
Emi Martinez did not play against the Eagles, and Unai Emery is seeking to make the most of the Argentine’s potential exit.
Aston Villa are discussing Sancho as a separate deal to the sale of Martinez, and with his arrival a real possibility, Villa News analyses which shirt number he could wear.

Jadon Sancho could wear the 10 for Villa
Sancho will no doubt land at Villa, hoping to be the recipient of the Villans’ number ten shirt.
During his loan move with Borussia Dortmund in 2024, the winger wore number ten, and he would be happy to reclaim it at Villa.
However, the 10 is already taken by Emiliano Buendia, who has worn it since 2021, and Sancho would have to rely on the Argentine’s exit for the special number.
Jadon Sancho’s previous shirt numbers:
- 2020–2021: No. 7 (Borussia Dortmund)
- 2021–2023: No. 25 (Manchester United)
- Early 2024 (loan): No. 10 (Dortmund)
- 2024–25: No. 19 (Chelsea)
Upon recovering from a major knee injury, Buendia spent the second half of last season at Bayer Leverkusen on loan after struggling for minutes under Emery.
He has since returned and impressed Emery during Villa’s pre-season games. But he failed to feature in their opening Premier League fixture against Newcastle United.
However, he impressed and created four chances against Crystal Palace, the most of any Villa player.
With Buendia set to keep his beloved number ten shirt, Sancho will likely have to look elsewhere.
The winger has also previously worn the numbers seven, 19 and 25.
With Sam Iling-Junior set to join West Brom on loan, the newcomer will have the pick between numbers 19 and 25.

Jadon Sancho could cost Aston Villa £65million in wages
Sancho is not expected to come cheap for Villa – and that’s on wages alone.
According to Capology, Sancho earns £250,000 a week and is expected to earn £13million from now until the end of his contract, which runs out on 30 June 2026.
If the Villans sign him on a five-year deal on a salary similar to what he’s already earning, Sancho could earn £65m if he completes his contract.
Monchi would very likely negotiate that down much further, though, if this deal materialises before the 7 pm deadline on Monday.
