Aston Villa set to announce season-defining double deal despite transfer deadline passing

Aston Villa have endured a torrid start to the Premier League season and were always in need of a big finish to the summer transfer window.

Villa lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace at Villa Park on Sunday to leave them on one point from their first three matches.

Unai Emery has had to contend with key players leaving the Villans, with Jacob Ramsey’s move to Newcastle United a particular blow.

However, Villa had plenty of irons in the fire when it came to potential incomings on deadline day, and it may well be that their season has now been rescued.

Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott deals still on track for Aston Villa

Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho emerged as a target for Villa on deadline day, while Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has been on the radar for a little while longer.

It is reported that Villa will have to pay Liverpool £35million for Elliott, although that deal, as well as the Sancho one, were not announced prior to the 7pm deadline.

However, as per Birmingham World journalist Charlie Haffenden via X, Villa completed the necessary steps to complete the double deal prior to that cut-off point.

Premier League sides have until 9pm to iron out any last-minute issues, meaning Sancho and Elliott are still on course to be announced as Villa players before the close of play.

Aston Villa set for much-needed boost after transfer deadline day

There is no question that Villa have not been good enough this season, but Emery has had to operate with one arm tied behind his back due to PSR.

If Sancho and Elliott do indeed become Villa players, though, that instantly transforms this Villa squad.

Indeed, it is not hyperbolic to suggest this double dead is season-defining for Emery and his Villa side.

It has been a tough month or so for every Villan, but hopefully that is all now about to change.
