Shock Emi Martinez approach made to Aston Villa and goalkeeper’s agents ahead of deadline
Emi Martinez continues to be linked with a move away from Aston Villa.
Martinez cried on the pitch as Villa beat Tottenham last season, pointing towards an exit being in the pipeline well before the current season.
Despite this, Martinez came in from the start for Villa against Brentford as Unai Emery’s side fell to defeat in their second outing of the campaign.
This had led many supporters at Villa Park to believe that Martinez’s future was safe, but the situation doesn’t appear to be so clear-cut.
Despite hints of staying at Villa in pre-season against Roma, Martinez could still make a move away from the Midlands before the 1 September deadline.

Emi Martinez exit talks continue with agents
It has felt likely that if Martinez leaves Villa, it will be to Manchester United after months of strong links to Ruben Amorim’s outfit.
With that being said, a deal never truly reached an advanced stage and, much to the delight of the Villans, the Argentine instead stuck around in the Midlands.
Many thought that this would be the end of a long and drawn-out transfer saga, but links to a move have now been reignited.
This comes after a poor start to the season for United, which has seen Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both come under heavy scrutiny for the Red Devils.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported, on 31 August, that Man United have made a fresh approach to land Martinez before the end of the window.
A deal is still being pushed for Senne Lammens at the Theatre of Dreams, with United wanting to be ready to sign the Argentine if a deal falls through.
A new move had been made with talks underway with the keeper’s agent and Villa, with less than two days remaining in the window.

Aston Villa can’t lose Emi Martinez now
There is no getting away from the fact that selling Martinez at this stage of the window would prove to be catastrophic for the Villans.
Despite not having his greatest day against Brentford, the World Cup winner is still one of the best keepers in the Premier League, and it would be a massive blow to lose him.
Stat vs Brentford | Emi Martinez |
Goals conceded | 1 |
Saves | 1 |
Long ball accuracy (%) | 67 |
High claims | 0 |
At this point, finding a replacement could prove to be nearly impossible, all while benefiting Manchester United at this late stage of the summer.
Any links to the Red Devils needs to be cut short and not shown any attention if Villa are serious about having another positive campaign.
