Emi Martinez is Manchester United-bound as Aston Villa announcement made

Emi Martinez has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa all summer, but now he finally appears set to leave.

Martinez was credited with a move to Manchester United, who have two goalkeepers under intense scrutiny at the moment.

Martinez started for Aston Villa against Brentford after missing the opening game through suspension.

Now, it seems that he may have played his final match for the Villans after their latest announcement.

Emi Martinez left out of Aston Villa squad to face Crystal Palace

Man United have agreed personal terms with Martinez, who is set to end his five-year stay at Villa Park.

The Argentina international sparked speculation around his Aston Villa future after waving goodbye at the end of the West Midlands club’s final home game of last season.

Indeed, United, along with clubs in Saudi Arabia, have been linked with the 32-year-old, but now he is set to move to Old Trafford with only 24 hours left in the window.

Villa announced their starting line-up to face Crystal Palace on Sunday, and Martinez was a notable absentee from the team sheet.

Marco Bizot will start between the sticks, while 18-year-old goalkeeper Sam Proctor takes to the bench.

Villa have perfect Emi Martinez replacement in Diogo Costa

There is no doubting Martinez’s impact at Villa Park, and he will certainly be a miss for the West Midlands club.

However, in Costa, Unai Emery could have a goalkeeper who has already achieved so much in his career.

The Portugal international is reportedly in advanced talks with Aston Villa and is set to arrive before the transfer deadline on 1 September.

Costa has already made over 200 appearances for FC Porto, where he has played his entire career.

Furthermore, the shotstopper has a wealth of European experience under his belt and is also Portugal’s number one.

While many supporters will be upset to see Martinez leave, it seems they are in safe hands for the future.
