Emi Martinez agrees personal terms to quit Aston Villa – here’s what will happen next

Emi Martinez has been ready to leave Aston Villa for some time now.

Martinez said his goodbyes to the Aston Villa fans at the end of last season, but is yet to depart Villa Park this summer.

This is despite Villa signing Marco Bizot this summer from Brest, who started Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw against Newcastle United at Villa Park.

Martinez started Villa’s 1-0 defeat at Brentford, but now there appears to be a breakthrough for his departure.

Manchester United agree terms with Emi Martinez

Manchester United are pushing again to sign Martinez this summer, and have now agreed personal terms with the Argentine.

United are looking for a new goalkeeper after witnessing several high-profile errors from both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the former Arsenal goalkeeper was the Red Devils’ back-up should a deal for Senne Lammens not materialise.

Manchester United will now need to agree a fee with Villa to finalise the deal, with less than 30 hours remaining in the window, as well as complete the medical and other proceedings.

Aston Villa have now made formal approach for Senne Lammens

Villa have already begun their search for Martinez’s long-term replacement, and now have singled out their preferred option.

Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Lammens has been identified by Villa, with an official approach made to the Belgian side, according to Romano.

The Villans are also interested in Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, but a deal for the Belgian appears to be more attainable.

A deal for Lammens will end Martinez’s spell in the Midlands and allow Villa to move on to other targets ahead of what promises to be an eventful Deadline Day.
