Aston Villa in talks for £1m attacker amid deadline-busting Morgan Rogers exit fears

Morgan Rogers continues to be linked with an Aston Villa departure this summer.

Tottenham have most recently shown interest in Villa star Rogers, despite the clear desire of Unai Emery to keep the England international at Villa Park.

This comes after a difficult start to the season for the attacking midfielder, with Rogers struggling with Villa fitness on opening day against Newcastle.

With that being said, there is no doubt of the talent that Rogers possesses after winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award, which makes the exit links unsurprising.

These don’t seem to be going away ahead of the 1 September transfer deadline, with a £1million alternative option for Rogers seemingly being lined up.

Morgan Rogers could still leave Aston Villa

There isn’t a single member of the claret and blue faithful who will want to see the 23-year-old depart the Midlands this summer.

This has been echoed by Andy Townsend, who would be “staggered” if Rogers left Villa before the transfer window comes to an end.

Despite this, eyes on the former Manchester City youngster doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, something which could represent a threat in B6.

This has seen the Mail on Sunday report on 31 August, page 86, that Villa are braced for late interest in Rogers before the window slams shut.

Further departure links for the Englishman have coincided with talks over a deal to sign 17-year-old Fletcher Boyd from Aberdeen.

The young attacking midfielder is rated at £1m plus add-ons, as well as a sizable sell-on clause, with a move to Villa Park now seemingly in the pipeline.

Monchi continuing Aston Villa transfer strategy

There may have been a time where the signing of a teenage talent for a seven-figure fee would have gotten Villa fans excited.

That won’t be the case any more as Villa’s recruitment strategy of buying young players to then sell quickly for a profit has been on show for many years now.

This has most recently seen Yasin Ozcan come in before being instantly sent out on a loan with an option to buy to Anderlecht.

Zepiqueno Redmond looks destined to follow him out the door to somewhere in the EFL, becoming the next on the production line in the Midlands.

It feels likely that the signing of Boyd is the next step in this process, and as a result, supporters may not get carried away with the signing of such a talent.
