Three players Unai Emery must sell to ease PSR restrictions at Aston Villa including Matty Cash
Aston Villa needs signings before the summer deadline, and three sales may be the best way to achieve that.
The Premier League’s profit a sustainability rules have hampered Villa’s movements in the summer transfer window.
The PSR permits a maximum loss of £105million over three years. However, the Villans’ relevant losses for 2023-24 were just over £200m before deductions.
With Villa looking to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea as well as bring Marco Asensio back to Villa Park, NSWE will need to make some sales beforehand.
Emi Buendia
Emi Buendia signed for Bayern Leverkusen on loan for the second half of the 2024/25 season before returning to Villa Park.
Upon his return, he impressed Unai Emery during pre-season, but spent Villa’s 0-0 draw to Newcastle United on the bench.
- Villa signed Buendia on a five-year contract in 2021
- Buendia played over 300 minutes during Villa’s pre-season fixtures
- This is more than three times the game time he had in the Premier League last season
Villa are undecided on Buendia’s future, and he could still leave before the window closes. With the midfielder likely to remain a substitute for large parts of the season, the Villans should seek a move for him this summer.
Morgan Rogers
Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested in Lucas Paqueta and could be tempted to place a mammoth bid before 1 September.
Up until now, the Villans have had no intention of selling Morgan Rogers despite Tottenham’s interest.
But Villa are almost certain to collect a £100m fee for the midfielder. As such, the Villans could take this money and use it to fund Paqueta’s transfer.
Matty Cash
An emotional return for Matty Cash to Nottingham Forest emerged as a possibility this summer.
However, this does not seem to be an option anymore, with Forest keen on signing former Villa target Lutsharel Geertruida. Despite this, the Reds’ interest could indicate that there will be a demand for Cash and Villa to put him up for sale.
It is no secret that Villa fans have been disappointed with his inconsistent performances as of late. As such, a last-minute transfer could kelp Villa to ease PSR restrictions.
