Aston Villa could be ready to sell Morgan Rogers to Tottenham amid UEFA developments

Aston Villa supporters face an anxious wait to find out if Morgan Rogers will remain at Villa Park past the transfer deadline.

The England international enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 campaign, hence the rumours circulating his future.

Tottenham have reportedly made Rogers a priority and expect to pay £80million to land the 23-year-old.

With the window set to close on 1 September, the Villans may decide to cash in on Rogers, given their recent UEFA worries.

Aston Villa could be tempted to sell Morgan Rogers for sizeable fee

Rogers was recently named PFA Young Player of the Year and received love from his England teammates.

Aston Villa have already sold Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United and are mindful of wages amid UEFA’s regulations.

Now, football finance expert Dan Plumley – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has commented on whether Rogers’ possible exit would ease wage concerns.

“Yes, it helps with the wage issue but doesn’t solve it, so obviously the transfer fee would be significant and that won’t come in one hit,” he said.

“But you know you’ve got that money in the bank, so to speak, when it arrives under the terms of that deal, but they’ve still got some work to do with the wages, even given that.

“And again, the other side of that is you know you don’t want to lose all of your best players as well, so it’s a tricky balance and I think the club have obviously said that.

“The noise, as they’re suggesting, is that with the Ramsey deal being done that nobody else has to leave, but a big money offer like that could be tempting.

“It’s to a Premier League rival as well, that’s an interesting subplot within it as always, so it’s a really tricky balance, but it would go a long way to helping out for sure.

But it’s the wages consideration alongside UEFA’s regulations that they’ve probably got to be most mindful of at the minute, and that’s obviously not just Morgan Rogers, that’s the whole squad as well.

Villa should reject all Morgan Rogers offers this transfer window

Given how late in the window it is, selling Rogers to Tottenham now would be the equivalent of hitting the self-destruct button.

Rogers is widely regarded as the Villans’ best player, and allowing him to depart would leave Emery with a significant hole in his side.

Furthermore, it would be near impossible for the West Midlands outfit to find an adequate replacement before the deadline.

Of course, every player has their price, but selling the Englishman now would be unfathomable.
