Aston Villa could sell Matty Cash to Nottingham Forest but one factor is ‘potentially challenging’
Matty Cash could soon be on his way out of Aston Villa in a return to Nottingham Forest.
The Poland international has come under constant scrutiny at Villa Park for his poor performances, with Cash recently being slammed after an error against Manchester United.
Despite this, Unai Emery has continued to back the 28-year-old with the right-back starting in the opening day draw against Newcastle in B6.
Having delivered the failed cross, which ultimately ended up with Ezri Konsa being sent off at Villa Park, there was further frustration levelled at the defender.
With that being said, it could prove to be one of his final actions in claret and blue, with Matty Cash now linked with a return to Nottingham Forest.

Matty Cash could make Nottingham Forest return
There is no getting away from the fact that many Villa fans believe the defender isn’t good enough for where the claret and blue outfit wants to be.
With that being said, the number two represents a much more experienced option than Andres Garcia, who missed the Newcastle clash through injury.
This has seen Hector Fort from Barcelona be linked to Villa Park, with a new option potentially being considered by the Villans this summer.
This could leave the door open at Bodymoor Heath for Cash to depart if the right offer was made before the 1 September transfer deadline.
Jacob Tanswell has reported (20 August) that Nottingham Forest are now exploring a deal to bring the defender back to the City Ground.
Villa are yet to receive an approach for the Polish right-back, while they remain open to extending his contract in B6 this campaign.
A deal could be scuppered for the Reds due to Cash’s salary, something which could make a return to Forest ‘potentially challenging’ this summer.
How does Hector Fort compare to Matty Cash?
Although a transfer may look difficult as it stands, the Villans could look to push a deal over the line if a replacement was lined up already.
That is where Fort could come in, as a transfer could be completed with Barcelona before the end of the summer window.
The 19-year-old has already made 30 appearances for the Catalan giants and could represent a real coup for Emery’s side if a deal can be agreed.
With that being said, Fort is much less experienced than Cash and ultimately profiles worse than the ex-Forest man right now.
Stat | Matty Cash | Hector Fort |
Matches played | 27 | 20 |
Chances created | 11 | 10 |
Successful dribbles | 19 | 2 |
Tackles won | 32 | 8 |
Duels won | 115 | 19 |
That could easily be changed under the tutelage of Emery, something which could form a dynamic duo with Garcia in the right-back role.
The prospect of this happening for the claret and blue side will hinge on Cash’s willingness to take a pay cut in order to return to Forest this summer.
