Aston Villa ready Nicolas Jackson transfer: Likely shirt number and wage revealed
Aston Villa are weighing up a move to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson in the closing weeks of the window.
Unai Emery could reunite with Jackson, with the Spaniard overseeing his breakthrough at Villarreal in 2022.
Villa had been interested in a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but the striker ultimately signed on a free transfer for Leeds United.
Ollie Watkins could still leave Villa Park this summer, with Newcastle United previously showing interest in the England international.
That could open the door for Jackson to make the switch.

What shirt number would Nicolas Jackson take at Villa?
Florian Plettenberg reported on 18 August that Villa have added Jackson to their shortlist and are monitoring his situation.
Several clubs are interested, but the Villans are keen to throw their hat in the ring, and would need to give the 24-year-old a new shirt number if they won the race.
- Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson in 2023 for around £30m.
- The striker has scored 30 goals since his arrival.
- The signings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap have moved Jackson to the periphery.
Since the start of the 2022/23 season, Jackson has worn the number 15. First at Villarreal, and then upon his arrival at Chelsea.
Unfortunately, at Villa, that number is taken by Alex Moreno. The defender could well leave before the end of the window, but the striker would have to consider alternatives in the meantime.
Interestingly, Jackson has only ever briefly worn the number nine shirt for his country. But a potential move to Villa could make for a good time to start, with Marcus Rashford leaving the number vacant upon his departure.

How much would Nicolas Jackson earn at Villa?
Interestingly, despite Chelsea’s seeming desperation to part ways with as much money as possible in every transfer window, the Blues are surprisingly frugal when it comes to wages.
According to Capology, just two players at Stamford Bridge are on over £200,000 per week, with most key players being on around £140,000 per week.
Chelsea look to offer security, rather than instant gains. Most of the contracts signed in past years do not run out until the early 2030s, with Cole Palmer signing a new contract last summer that will keep him in Blue until 2033.
Jackson is reportedly earning £100,000 per week at Chelsea, and would likely expect a slight pay increase should he move to Villa.
Aston Villa 2025/26 | Wage (p/w) |
Boubacar Kamara | £150,000 |
Youri Tielemans | £150,000 |
Emi Martinez | £150,000 |
Donyell Malen | £140,000 |
Amadou Onana | £140,000 |
The Villans do have several players earning more than £100,000 per week, and the striker would be expected to join them – likely earning around £150,000-170,000 per week.
Such a wage sounds steep, but it is likely on the lower side when compared to the wages other strikers will be earning following their summer moves.
