Richard Keys says why Newcastle were hard done by vs Aston Villa after what he saw

Richard Keys is unimpressed with the latest decision in Aston Villa’s confrontation against Newcastle United.

Villa are taking on Newcastle in their opening game of the Premier League season as top-flight football returns.

Ollie Watkins has been tipped to leave Villa this summer. But the forward was named by Unai Emery in the lineup to face the Magpies.

After finishing just outside of UEFA Champions League qualification, Villa will want to start the season strongly. However, Keys already believes a decision in this game has worked in the Villans’ favour.

Newcastle denied penalty decision

Villa’s clash against Newcastle, who are without Alexander Isak, started as an eventful one.

Anthony Elanga challenged Marco Bizot a couple of minutes into the first half with a shot, which forced a wonderful save from the Villa keeper.

Only five minutes into the opening half, Harvey Barnes went down in the area following a strong challenge from Boubacar Kamara. Barnes felt that he should have had a penalty, and there is a case to be made.

However, VAR disagreed, and the visitors were awarded a corner. The decision sparked outrage from fans and avid watchers across social media.

That included BeIN Sports Senior Football Anchor Richard Keys, who told his followers via X that Newcastle have been “hard done by.”

What are the next steps for Villa after the game?

While Emery’s focus will be on the game, there will always be the concern of what comes after.

Villa have had a quiet summer in the window so far, with more outgoings than incomings. But that is expected to change over the last few weeks of August.

Marco Asensio has been linked with a return to Villa. The forward enjoyed an incredible loan spell at Villa Park last season but subsequently returned to PSG. However, Villa now know what to pay PSG to get the transfer over the line.

More names are circulating that could arrive this summer. And with intentions the playing in the Champions League, Emery will welcome some new signings.
