How many millions Marco Asensio could earn as Aston Villa eye transfer return
Aston Villa are now seriously considering the possibility of re-signing Marco Asensio.
The winger was impressive for the Villans during a brief loan spell in the second half of last season, as he struck eight goals from just 21 appearances in all competitions.
Asensio’s possible return to Aston Villa has been speculated for a while now, as PSG and Luis Enrique seem adamant that he will not be part of their plans for the upcoming campaign.
Unai Emery’s side initially steered clear of pursuing either a permanent deal or an extension of his loan, but now both options could be back on the table.

Asensio needs to cut his £241,000-a-week wages to join Villa
Villa are now understood to be exploring a move for Asensio, who could yet make a sensational return in the closing weeks of the transfer window.
The Spanish star could represent an ideal way for Emery to add top-level quality, but also an additional dose of familiarity to his squad, given that his loan spell delivered so much promise last term.
However, it goes without saying that the 29-year-old would need to agree to take a significant pay cut if the Villa Park outfit are to have any hope of striking a deal.
- £241,000 – Asensio’s current wage at PSG
- £116,500 – The cut of Asensio’s wages that Villa paid during last season’s loan
- £150,000 – The wages of the current highest earners at Villa
- Figures based on Capology estimates
The former Real Madrid star is thought to be earning a little over £241,000 a week in the French capital, according to Capology estimates.
By comparison, the Villans’ current highest earners are thought to be commanding a weekly wage of around £150,000, as per Capology.
As a result, unless Asensio would be willing to slash his wages to fall further in line with the rest of Villa’s big names, then the West Midlanders would have to completely disregard their wage structure to secure his signature.
Even if they ultimately settled on another loan deal, given PSG’s desire to shift him from their wage bill, it would be a huge surprise if Villa didn’t have to shoulder a financial burden of at least £120,000 a week, which equates to £6.2million.

Villa would be silly not to take Asensio at a cut-price fee
Villa have been linked with a return for Asensio on several occasions over the last few weeks, but with the season quickly approaching, now feels like the perfect time for them to strike.
PSG will line up against Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, while they then make their domestic bow on Sunday.
- Asensio hit eight goals in 21 games for Villa last year
- He has found the back of the net just seven times for PSG across 47 appearances
- The wideman netted 61 goals for Real Madrid earlier in his career
Enrique and Co. will want to trim the squad so that only those who are in his plans remain, and that looks likely to push Asensio out of the door, potentially even for a cut-price fee.
Given the context of Villa’s summer so far, they would surely be silly to pass up the opportunity to sign a player of such proven quality if a chance arose to land him on the cheap.
