Aston Villa set to learn Alexis Saelemaekers fate as AC Milan make intentions clear
Aston Villa could be about to learn the outcome of their pursuit of Alexis Saelemaekers imminently.
The wideman impressed during a loan spell at Roma last season, which has prompted suggestions that he could be in line to depart AC Milan on a permanent basis this summer.
Saelemaekers has attracted interest from Villa in the last few days, with the Premier League outfit potentially about to ready a bid for the Belgian.
Unai Emery and Co. have found it difficult to add to their squad throughout the summer, but there could now be a few last-minute deals in the pipeline.

Villa set to miss out on Saelemaekers as Milan eye contract talks
Aston Villa’s PSR situation has given them a major obstacle to work around in the market this summer, and it looks likely that they will taste yet more transfer frustration on this occasion.
Interest in Saelemaekers is completely understandable, given that the wideman enjoyed the most productive season of his career so far with Roma last term.
- Saelemaekers hit seven goals and five assists for Roma last term
- That was statistically the best season of his career in Serie A
- His form appears to have handed Milan the incentive to discuss a new contract
However, his form in the Italian capital also seems to have given him renewed value to his parent club, who have welcomed Massimiliano Allegri into their dugout since the end of the previous campaign.
It is now understood that the Rossoneri’s intention is to start discussing a new contract with Saelemaekers “in the coming weeks,” according to Calcio Mercato.
The new boss is believed to be keen on the 26-year-old’s versatility, as he can operate effectively in virtually any role on the right flank.
There has been interest in Saelemaekers from both Villa and Nottingham Forest of late, but the fate of their transfer pursuits seems to have effectively been sealed by this latest update.
Saelemaekers update may have influenced Aston Villa Asensio decision
Villa are now exploring a move for Marco Asensio, as they look to bolster their attacking options in the final few weeks of the window.
The Spanish winger impressed during a loan stint at Villa Park last term, and it is entirely possible that the B6 outfit have been sparked into by the recent update from Milan.
Their summer has been a challenging one so far, and they likely cannot afford to make many more additions, especially to their attacking ranks.
With any potential move for Saelemaekers likely to now be off the table, Villa need to throw everything they can at their former loanee if they want to strengthen in the attacking half before the deadline.
