Calvert-Lewin sidelines agent to force through transfer amid Aston Villa news

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa over the last few weeks.

The frontman is a free agent after leaving Everton earlier in the summer, but he remains without a club, despite several teams showing an interest in offering him a deal.

Aston Villa have already made an approach to Calvert-Lewin in order to seek out his likely wage demands with a view to potentially putting a contract on the table.

The likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United have also been linked with the 28-year-old, but the striker has now taken a drastic new stance in order to push for a new club.

Calvert-Lewin is doing his own negotiating amid Man United hopes

Calvert-Lewin’s woeful injury record will be a big concern for Villa, and is likely to be posing a serious obstacle to his ability to earn himself a deal for next term.

There have seemingly been several potential suitors for the former England international, but none have yet committed with the proposal of a concrete offer.

As a result, the striker has now seemingly taken matters into his own hands and stepped away from his agent in order to try and force through a move.

Calvert-Lewin is now understood to be using his family members to help negotiate his next move, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon account.

The frontman has several clubs interested in him, both in the UK and abroad, but it is thought that he is hoping to strike a deal with Manchester United once they have concluded their big-money pursuits.

Aston Villa should cool on Calvert-Lewin after Guessand signing

Villa had seemingly been keen to push through a deal for Calvert-Lewin, but that was before they completed the signing of Evann Guessand.

The Frenchman has recently moved to Villa Park for a fee of around £30million, and with him now part of Unai Emery’s squad, there are numerous strong options to lead the line.

2024/25 league stats for Villa’s striker options, compared to Calvert-Lewin.

Ollie Watkins, Donyell Malen and Guessand would surely all be ahead of Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order, and given the lofty wage demands that the former Sheffield United star would likely have, there seems little point in the Villans continuing their pursuit.

He has every right to value himself highly, given what he has produced in the past, but in the financial context of Villa’s summer, they simply cannot hand out a lucrative contract to someone who wouldn’t be a first choice.

Calvert-Lewin’s quality is undeniable on his day, but this is a deal that would surely be too much of a gamble for Emery and Co.
