Newcastle ready Ollie Watkins option as PIF’s stance on Aston Villa raid revealed

Aston Villa could still lose star striker Ollie Watkins this summer.

Unai Emery often dropped Watkins in favour of Jhon Duran, then Marcus Rashford last season, which has led to speculation about a frosty relationship.

The Villa Park star would have every right to feel undervalued and request an exit, but it seems as though the Villans want to keep him around.

The likes of Arsenal and Manchester United had been touted with moves for the England star, but there may be a new contender for his signature.

Newcastle move for Watkins depends on Wissa pursuit

Newcastle’s pursuit of Watkins may depend on whether Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) can bring other targets to St James’ Park.

A report from Mail Sport on 7 August claimed that the Magpies will turn their attention to the Villa star if they cannot sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford.

Newcastle correspondent Craig Hope states that: “If Wissa’s move collapses, don’t be surprised to see an offer lodged for the Villa man.”

“Watch this space, as they say, but the owners want to see at least one younger striker brought in.”

Villa may be victims of Alexander Isak transfer

The only reason why Eddie Howe’s side are desperate to bring in a new number nine is because Alexander Isak wants to move to Liverpool.

It seems to be a case of the Swede being allowed to leave when the PIF find a replacement, which Watkins would be perfect.

Emery and Monchi will not want to lose the Three Lions ace, even if the Spanish manager has had his differences with him.

Evan Guessand looks set to join from French outfit Nice, which would have provided genuine competition for Watkins again.

Whether he is up for the fight or would rather go and be the undisputed number one option on Tyneside is a question that only he can answer.

Villa need to know soon enough, as they would have to enter the market for another attacker if he does depart, as Guessand would be the only recognised striker at the club.

The Frenchman may take time to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and Donyell Malen is the only other option to play upfront, although Emery prefers to use him from the wing.

It is not an ideal situation for Emery and Co, especially this late in the window, as they may not have time to bring in the replacement that they want.
