Morgan Rogers’ injury update emerges after scare during Aston Villa’s win vs Roma

Morgan Rogers was a talisman for Aston Villa last season and will be central to any further success in the West Midlands.

This term, Aston Villa are set to fight on all fronts, with the Europa League a competition they could excel in.

With that in mind, they will need the England international available and raring to go with the new campaign imminent.

Rogers is closing in on a new deal at Villa Park, but there has been some concerning news regarding his fitness.

Rogers suffers ankle injury in Aston Villa’s trashing of Roma

There has been talk of Chelsea being interested in Rogers, but that should die down amid a fresh contract.

The 23-year-old has excelled since completing an £8million move from Middlesbrough and is indispensable to the Villans.

Last season, Rogers made 30 goal contributions in all competitions, stamping his mark at the top table.

Rogers is set to double his wages at Aston Villa, which would make him a top earner at the West Midlands club.

Now, there has been a significant update on the injury he picked up in Villa’s 4-0 thrashing of Roma.

Initial assessments indicate the ankle injury he picked up against the Italian side is not thought to be serious, according to Jacob Tanswell (7 August).

The Athletic journalist reports that caution remains as further tests will take place, but as of Thursday morning, there is hope he will feature against Newcastle United.

How big a loss would Rogers be to Emery?

Given his outstanding record last season, Rogers would certainly be a substantial loss to Emery.

The attacking midfielder only missed one league match last season and was a reliable asset for the Spaniard.

Furthermore, an opening game against Newcastle will be tough, and Emery will need his best players available.

Of course, it does not seem that the injury is serious, and there is clearly hope that he will feature.

However, if he is missing for any number of games, then Villa would be weaker without him.
