Emi Martinez hints towards Aston Villa future as Roma footage drops from Walsall
Emi Martinez has continuously been linked with an Aston Villa exit this summer.
The Argentina international cried on the pitch at Villa Park on the final home game of last season, pointing towards an almost certain exit.
This was totally bizarre and out of the blue, sparking long-term rumours of a move to Manchester United in recent weeks and months.
Despite this, no deal has gone through, and as a result, the 32-year-old started again in pre-season as Unai Emery’s side faced Roma on Wednesday (6 August).
Fresh fan footage has since emerged from the stands at the Pallet Track Bescot Stadium, and it could be a huge indication of where Martinez’s future lies.

Martinez hints at Aston Villa future vs Roma
You would seriously struggle to find a member of the claret and blue faithful who would ever want to see the World’s number one move on this summer.
Despite not having his greatest season last time around, there is no getting away from the quality and leadership that the keeper brings to the squad.
- Martinez was an instant success after signing from Arsenal
- Villa have qualified for Europe three times with him in goal
- With Argentina, the keeper has won three major honours
As a result, nerves have overtaken supporters waiting to learn whether the shotstopper would stay on in the Midlands or move on.
The chances of Martinez remaining at Villa Park appear to have been dealt a boost after his pre-match show of affection to the home fans at the Bescot.
Met with chants of “The World’s number one”, the keeper turned, patted the Villa badge before putting his hands up to rile up the fans.
Martinez could be set for Aston Villa stay
Although this action is far from a concrete “I’m staying”, it certainly has given the B6 faithful hope of keeping hold of their number 23.
This would certainly represent a massive boost for Emery moving into the new season, especially after welcoming Marco Bizot in from Brest.
It appears that he will be the number two choice behind the Argentine, who could be destined for a sixth season with the Villans since signing from Arsenal.
