Aston Villa news round-up: Reaction to Bailey post as new contract update emerges
Aston Villa will continue their pre-season preparations when they meet AS Roma on Wednesday.
The Villans are hoping to hit the ground running when the Premier League returns, with Unai Emery keen to avenge last season’s final-day failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
But pre-season has thrown up a mixed bag of results so far, with transfer business off the pitch not inspiring much confidence either.
Here, Villa News rounds up the latest news from the last 24 hours.

Brad Guzan predicts Villa league climb
It was a trip to Manchester United on the final day that ultimately saw Villa denied a place in the top five, with Emiliano Martinez’s red card leading to a loss when just one point was required.
But goalkeeper Brad Guzan is hopeful that his former side can make another push for the Champions League spots this season.
The American told Sky Sports (3 August): “I’m hoping Villa can kick on a little bit and finish maybe a spot or two higher, so for me, that’s where I’m going to be keeping my eye on.”
Fans agree on Leon Bailey claim
Villa took to social media (4 August) to commemorate the fourth anniversary of Leon Bailey signing from Bayer Leverkusen.
The winger’s highlight campaign came when he scored 10 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier League for the Villans in the 2023/24 season.
But the Jamaica international could not reach the same heights last season, and Villa fans shared their disappointment, with one calling on Bailey to “be more consistent”.
Jacob Ramsey may be offered Villa Park stay
Jacob Ramsey has been among the leading candidates to leave Villa this summer, with the midfielder attracting interest throughout the Premier League.
The Englishman’s status as an academy product would provide pure profit for the Villans if he is sold, significantly aiding in their struggle against the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

But according to The Athletic (4 August), Ramsey could be offered a new contract.
The 24-year-old has been a regular for Villa since his emergence in 2020, and could still contribute for Emery’s side.
