Lucas Chevalier verbally agrees new transfer after Aston Villa news

Aston Villa target Lucas Chevalier is not set to play for Lille once the forthcoming season commences.

It looks increasingly likely that Emi Martinez has played his final game in an Aston Villa shirt as Manchester United continue to circle.

The Argentine has been a commanding force since Villa signed him in 2020, but it seems he is prepared to undertake a new challenge next season.

As a result, the Villans have been browsing the window for their next number one.

Lille reach verbal agreement with PSG for Chevalier

As reported by Santi Aouna on Monday (28 July), a verbal agreement has been reached between Lille and PSG for Chevalier.

There are still a few final details to be finalised before the French international signs a contract with the UEFA Champions League winners until 2030. This will come as a huge blow for Villa, who could have proceeded with a deal had Martinez been taken off their hands.

The latest news represents another failure in the market for the Birmingham club, who have yet to get the ball rolling. With Unai Emery hoping to make the top five in the Premier League next season, the club will need to get busy with some reinforcements.

Villa could swoop in for Gianluigi Donnarumma

Chevalier is one of the most exciting young keepers in football; meanwhile, Gianluigi Donnarumma is coming off a Champions League-winning season – neither will be happy to hold the bench at PSG.

It has been widely reported that the Italian and PSG have failed to agree on terms for a new contract. As such, this presents the perfect opportunity for Villa to swoop in and sign Donnarumma before another club beats them to the final punch once again.

Donnarumma’s heroics were on full display during the return leg of the Champions League quarter-finals at Villa Park. The PSG keeper made five saves to deny Villa from progressing to the next stage of the competition.

With Martinez having one foot out the door, Villa need an excellent shot stopper, and Donnarumma could be the right man for the job.
