Exclusive: ‘Aston Villa happy to accept £30m for McGinn to be new Everton captain’

John McGinn could become Everton captain if he completes an Aston Villa exit this summer.

The Scotland international has recently been linked with a switch to the Toffees to link up with fellow countryman David Moyes on Merseyside.

This comes after a hugely positive stint under Unai Emery, with a wonder goal against PSG in a Champions League quarter-final being his crowning moment.

With that being said, an offer may still be assessed by the Villans moving deeper into the summer, as a Villa Park exit could be in the pipeline.

Everton could offer captaincy to McGinn

It would be a sizable challenge to find many supporters in B6 who would be willing to part ways with the 30-year-old after seven seasons.

Despite this, it may prove to be difficult to turn down an offer if the Evertonians are to come in with something too good to turn down.

It would certainly be interesting to know how Emery and Monchi assess the Villa skipper and his future in the Midlands, and whether McGinn would welcome an Everton move.

With that in mind, ex-Brentford and Leicester City manager Martin Allen has suggested that the Toffees could offer the Scot the armband in L4 if Villa were to accept a £30million bid.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Allen said: “I don’t think Villa can be letting him go at the moment.

He’s been an integral part of the success on and off the field, and he seems like a popular player.

I very much doubt that Aston Villa will even think about letting him go. Everton would definitely want him, he would fit in there and would be their new captain.

John McGinn would be worth £30m if Villa were to get that offer, they could take it, but that would be the minimum they would even consider.

Aston Villa to consider McGinn sale

It would prove to be a bold move to part ways with the versatile midfielder at this stage of the window, especially with the lack of signings.

Replacing McGinn would prove to be near impossible anyway, so his sale would likely go down badly on the terraces at Villa Park.

The Scot does face stern competition from the likes of Youri Tielemans, Jacob Ramsey and Co., but he certainly offers something completely different.

Whether a move to Everton to become their captain would be appealing is unclear, but it feels unlikely that he would want the move right now.
