‘Aston Villa to take Dominic Calvert-Lewin gamble’ – Exclusive
Aston Villa are expected to take a chance on Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the striker’s Everton exit.
Calvert-Lewin departed Everton at the end of his season as his contract came to an end after nine years at Goodison Park.
This has seen several sides showcase an interest in the 28-year-old, with a Villa Park switch potentially on the cards this summer.
Unai Emery and Co. could potentially take a risk on the striker as the Spaniard looks to build positive squad depth in attacking areas.

Aston Villa could sign Calvert-Lewin
It is fair to say, since the departure of Jhon Duran to Al Nassr, the Villans haven’t had a true alternative to Ollie Watkins up top in B6.
Last campaign, Marcus Rashford was afforded many chances but doesn’t look destined to return to the Midlands for the new season.
As a result, this could see a free transfer swoop to land Calvert-Lewin make sense as a useful squad option for what is likely to be a busy campaign.
Former Brentford and Leicester City manager Martin Allen believes this could be a positive signing for Villa as long as the Englishman has worked on his recent fitness troubles.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Allen said: “He’s had a particularly difficult time with injury.
“However, if he has been training hard throughout the summer and built up his fitness over a good six-week period, he will get goals. Calvert-Lewin has got something about him, he’s got strength, he’s got pace and good in the air.
“If Villa get him on a free transfer and take a gamble on him, it could well pay off. I could see a move to Villa happening because he has got talent, there’s no doubt about that.”

Calvert-Lewin cut-price deal makes sense at Aston Villa
The signing of the former Sheffield United man may not go down well among many fans in B6 after such a patchy record for Everton.
His injury history is far from attractive, but there is evidence to prove that if he can stay fit, he can score goals under a top head coach.
Stat | Dominic Calvert-Lewin |
Appearances | 39 |
Goals | 21 |
Assists | 1 |
This was certainly the case under Carlo Ancelotti with the Toffees and could be replicated by Calvert-Lewin under Emery in the West Midlands.
With UEFA Europa League football on the agenda at Villa Park, strength in depth will be necessary, so a free deal for an experienced Premier League forward shouldn’t be sniffed at.
