Newcastle set for ‘biggest ever swoop’ after Aston Villa transfer decision

Aston Villa Women are looking to recover from a poor season in the Women’s Super League.

The team looked in danger of being relegated after a disastrous start to the season, which saw Robert de Pauw sacked in December.

Natalia Arroyo was recruited in January and helped the team enjoy a stronger finish to the season. She’ll be hoping her side can continue this run throughout the entirety of the next campaign.

Arroyo will look to make her own mark on the team, and that will include doing without Jordan Nobbs, who was released after the expiry of her contract.

Rachel Corsie, Dan Turner and Maz Pacheco have also been released.

Newcastle favourites to sign Nobbs

There has been no shortage of interest in signing Nobbs.

Supposedly, a number of WSL sides have made enquiries, but it’s Women’s Championship side Newcastle United who are favourites for her signature.

Chronicle Live reports that Newcastle are pushing to seal their “biggest ever deal” in signing Nobbs.

It’s an accurate sentiment. Nobbs has 71 England caps to her name. It would represent a serious coup for a team in the second tier of the WSL, and it would be no surprise to see Newcastle competing with Villa in the top tier in a year’s time.

Nobbs will be remembered at Villa Women for a long time to come

Nobbs arrived at Villa with a lot of expectation on her shoulders, given her prior achievements.

She always gave her best in a Villa shirt and certainly played her part in helping push the team up the WSL table.

She was a popular figure among her teammates, as shown by the reaction to her leaving Villa Park.

However, at 32 years old, it’s understandable why Villa decided not to offer her a new contract. The club will now look to progress without her.

However, it’s clear that she will be remembered as an important player for Villa Ladies for years to come.

If she does end up playing against Villa for an opposing team, she will be warmly welcomed back to the club.
