Marco Asensio ‘close to agreement’ amid Aston Villa transfer interest
Marco Asensio spent the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan to Aston Villa from PSG.
The Spaniard registered eight goals and one assist in 21 matches, but this was not enough for qualification for the Champions League.
Now, the 29-year-old has returned to PSG, with rumours circulating about his future.
Asensio has been linked with a permanent switch to Aston Villa this summer.
However, multiple other clubs are also interested in acquiring the winger permanently.

Fenerbahce closing in on Asensio
Fenerbahce have already been strongly linked to Asensio this summer as he looks for a new club.
Now, according to Football Italia (11 July), an agreement is “close” between the Turkish giants and the winger.
Representatives of Fenerbahce are said to have met with PSG on Thursday night, and the deal is nearly finalised.
Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on the winger and has pushed to beat rival clubs to his signature.
It is not said how much Asensio will cost the Turkish club or what his contract may entail.

Asensio not the right fit for Aston Villa this season
Going into the new campaign, Unai Emery had to move on from players like Asensio if the Birmingham outfit was to progress.
While the attacker did perform in cup competitions, he often struggled in the Premier League.

On top of this, the Spaniard will likely demand big wages, something that Aston Villa simply shouldn’t facilitate, given he is reaching the twilight of his career and may only have a few years left at the top.
Now, Emery has to find a replacement for Asensio in the transfer market as the 29-year-old still played an important part last season.
Hopefully, Villa have attacking targets in mind and are preparing to make some offers over the next few weeks.
