Aston Villa ‘hours away from goalkeeper announcement’ amid Martinez bombshell
Emi Martinez has been regularly linked with an exit from Villa Park this summer.
Underlying Profit and Sustainability Rule issues at Villa Park meant an exit for the goalkeeper was on the cards, but Villa have now taken action to rectify the issue.
The Argentine has been a huge factor in Unai Emery’s side’s success over the past couple of seasons, but question marks over his future simply will not go away.

Martinez set to stay at Aston Villa despite Bizot arrival
Aston Villa have struggled to complete any transfer business so far this summer.
Despite being in the clear when it comes to PSR domestically speaking, the Villans must still be careful with their spending and could sanction exits to fund transfers.
The 32-year-old is one of those who had been heavily linked with a move away, but a bombshell recent report claims Martinez is set to stay at Villa Park.

Now, according to L’Equipe (11 July), Marco Bizot is expected to sign for Villa from Brest but isn’t expected to be the number one for Emery’s side.
It was thought that the potential signing could spell the end for Martinez at Villa.
However, with Villa no longer having to sell, Martinez looks set to stay on as number one and Bizot – whose arrival is said to be potentially hours away – will be back-up for now.

Martinez exit wouldn’t have made sense
Though potentially exits such as that of Jacob Ramsey make sense financially, the sale of Martinez would have been ridiculous.
The Argentine must be allowed to continue at Villa Park and possibly retire as a legend.
At 32 years old, the keeper still has plenty of playing time left in his career, and to sell him this summer would have been ridiculous.
Even if the Villans continue to struggle with PSR, the sale will not make much sense.
In signing Bizot, Emery adds good depth to his side and, at 34, he will be happy enough to collect his wages as and fill in in goal when needed.
