Marco Asensio resumes contract talks amid £7.7m offer after Aston Villa
Marco Asensio has reopened talks over a deal after his Aston Villa loan deal ended.
The Spaniard was excellent at the early stages of his temporary spell at Villa Park before slowing down towards the end of the season.
This hasn’t yet culminated in a permanent deal to once again link up with Unai Emery, but there is still time with many weeks remaining in the window.
With that being said, contract talks have now resumed as the attacking midfielder holds out for what he considers to be a fair wage.

Asensio opens talks after £7.7m offer
There is no doubt that the 29-year-old would bring excellent experience and squad depth, moving into a season in the Europa League.
The need for strength in depth will be massive, and as a result, bringing in the ex-Real Madrid star could prove to be superb.
Despite this, interest has appeared to be lacking from Monchi and Co., who likely had the chance to sign Asensio from PSG at the end of his Villa loan.
This has opened the door for Jose Mourinho and Super Lig giants Fenerbahce to make a move for the Spaniard this summer.
Turkish journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu reported on 10 July that an agreement has been reached over a transfer, but the deal is far from complete.
The Yellow Canaries tabled an initial wage offer of £7.7million to the three-time Champions League winner, one that the attacking midfielder found to be “insufficient”.
Now, fresh contract negotiations have begun over a potential wage increase before a deal can go through at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
Aston Villa look set to miss out on Asensio deal
With Marcus Rashford and Asensio, the Villans had a positive attacking force moving deeper into the campaign last time out.
Stat | Marco Asensio | Marcus Rashford |
Appearances | 21 | 17 |
Goals | 8 | 4 |
Assists | 1 | 5 |
It is hugely frustrating that this duo look unlikely to return after Villa missed out on Champions League football in a hugely disappointing fashion.
There was still hope that Asensio would return to Villa Park from PSG, but now a move to Turkyie to join Mourinho appears more likely by the day.
This does represent a blow for the B6 club, although there is likely to be a number of other options lined up moving deeper into the window.
