Aston Villa make John McGinn exit decision amid Everton transfer development

Aston Villa could end up selling some key first-team players, as a number of clubs have registered their interest in several stars.

Ollie Watkins has been linked with an exit since January, while Emiliano Martínez has also been touted as a player who could leave Villa Park.

Aston Villa are no longer under any financial pressure to sell, but they could look to rebuild the spine of their ageing team.

Captain John McGinn is now wanted by Everton, and Villa’s stance over the 30-year-old has emerged.

Aston Villa do not want to sell McGinn

McGinn has established himself as a key player at Aston Villa and featured regularly throughout last season as a popular player at Villa Park.

The 30-year-old started 27 of his 34 Premier League appearances, but as he gets older, his role in the side may decrease.

The Athletic (July 8) have now reported that Everton are keen on McGinn, who has two years left on his deal at Villa Park, but a deal looks unlikely this summer.

This is because Villa do not want to lose their captain, despite his age and contract situation, and as it stands, he is set to remain at the club as a key player for Unai Emery.

Villa right to keep McGinn

This summer could see a lot of changes for Villa as some experienced players may depart, and McGinn’s leadership will be vital as the club oversees these changes.

The Scotland star has been outstanding for Villa over the years, making 285 appearances, and he often pops up with vital goals while also providing a lot of creativity.

McGinn has shown no signs of slowing down, and even if he enters into a more rotational role next season, he will still be a vital part of the dressing room.

With Villa under no pressure to sell, interest from a Premier League rival is almost certainly going to be rejected, although a decision may need to be made next summer.
