Emery prepares for major Aston Villa changes as Asensio set for PSG exit
Marco Asensio enjoyed a short loan spell at Aston Villa in the second half of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
The PSG winger joined the Birmingham outfit in February and scored eight times and registered one assist in 21 matches.
As a result, rumours have been circulating that Asensio could make a permanent switch to Aston Villa this summer.
Unai Emery has been keen to improve his attacking front line, with multiple players linked to Villa Park.
Now, Asensio’s future has taken another twist as the start of the new Premier League season approaches.

Aston Villa ‘to move on from Asensio’
With Villa set to play in the Europa League this season, signings are expected at Villa Park as they hope to win the European trophy.
After Villa’s PSR scare in June, it is now believed that they have more freedom in the transfer market after the sale of their women’s team.
However, according to Football Insider (7 July), even with these restrictions out of the way, Emery is not planning on making a move for Asensio.
Former Manchester United and Sunderland scout Mick Brown told the website that, while Asensio will likely have plenty of offers to leave PSG, Villa will be going in a different direction.
He said: “It looks like there are question marks over a few players at Villa this summer for a number of different reasons, but there could be major changes.
“From what I hear, Emery is prepared to move on without certain players, and Asensio is one of those. With the changes going on there, I think they’re going to head in a new direction.
“He’s a top-class player with plenty of ability, and there are a few clubs in Europe who are going to have a look at him, especially if Villa don’t make a move.”

Better options available to Villa over Asensio
While Asensio was not a bad player at Villa Park, there is no doubt better options available to Emery in the transfer market.
Not only is the winger heading into the twilight of his career, but he is also likely to demand a big wage package.

Monchi has already proven that he is capable of finding bargains in the transfer window, and the Spaniard should now be trusted to find an Asensio alternative.
Hopefully a new attacker can be brought in before the start of August to help him settle into the Birmingham outfit before the start of the season.
