Aston Villa could be set for ‘morbid’ pre-season fixture with new announcement mooted

Aston Villa have yet to make their impression in the transfer window after contending with the Profit and Sustainability Regulations.

Now, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have negated PSR concerns and look set for a highly productive spell in the market, ahead of the new season.

Despite evading punishment from the Premier League, the Villans still aren’t expected to splash the cash too much as they aim to avoid facing the same concerns next year.

With Villa’s summer expected to be quieter than usual, fans won’t be excited by their latest reported pre-season development.

Unai Emery and Pau Torres set for Villarreal reunion

Emery has a fantastic relationship with Villarreal and their fans, having turned down the chance to join Newcastle while in charge of the Spanish side.

When Emery departed his home country, he brought with him Torres, who had represented Villarreal for seven years.

Now, Mediterraneo has reported in its print edition (pg 33, 5 July) that Aston Villa could visit the Ceramic on August 10 in a “morbid and attractive pre-season closing”.

Emery’s side play Walsall and German side Hansa Rostock in July before a visit to America at the end of the month.

Villa will then play Frankfurt, St. Louis City and Nashville before closing their current schedule with a game against Roma on August 6.

The current pre-season offers plenty of room for another fixture before the Premier League starts on August 16, which may be at Villarreal.

Aston Villa playing catch-up in the transfer window

Villa are now playing catch-up in a race to get their squad ready for their potential visit to Spain.

Despite the work done to avoid a PSR breach in the Premier League, Emery’s side may still sell some of their assets this summer.

Emi Martinez is the most likely to leave after being heavily linked with moves to Manchester United and Saudi Arabia.

As it stands, Villa are now in a healthier financial position and can move to prepare their squad for the next campaign without the risk of costly departures.
