Douglas Luiz swap deal ready as Aston Villa learn transfer fate

Douglas Luiz left Aston Villa just over a year ago for Italian giants Juventus.

Although he has not been in Turin for long after his £42million move, there has already been speculation around his future.

The Brazilian has reportedly struggled to adapt in Italy, with Villa linked with a sensational return for Luiz.

It is believed that Juventus would only want around half of what they paid for Luiz, and his future has taken a fresh twist.

Juventus try to insert Luiz into Premier League swap deal

Luiz returning would certainly split Villa fans, given his form since leaving Villa Park.

The Brazilian international was a hit in the West Midlands, although he showed patches of inconsistency before departing for Italy.

During his final season in the Premier League, the midfielder notched an impressive 14 goal contributions for the Villans, qualifying for the Champions League.

However, last campaign, he only made three starts in 19 appearances, leaving his future in Turin uncertain.

With Juventus open to parting with Luiz, they have tried to insert him in part of a deal for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, according to Corriere dello Sport (3 July).

The Italian outlet states that Sancho would cost up to £25.8million, but his £12.9m a year salary is proving to be an issue.

They state that Sancho has already promised to cut his salary, but an agreement must be found on a broad spectrum and will take time.

Juventus’ confidence in signing the winger is growing, and it remains to be seen whether this will alert Villa to Luiz’s current situation.

Would re-signing Luiz be a wise move for Aston Villa?

Looking back, Luiz was a massive hit for Aston Villa, but things have changed since he was last at the West Midlands club.

John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara have continued to shine in midfield, while Youri Tielemans has developed into an irreplaceable player.

Furthermore, Emery also has Amadou Onana as a midfield option, meaning opportunities would be sparse for Luiz.

In attacking midfield, Morgan Rogers has established himself as a real force and is one of the first names on Emery’s teamsheet.

Of course, if the 29-year-old was able to replicate his form from two seasons ago, then there may be a space for him.

However, on current evidence, a return for the Brazilian international is probably not worth it.
