Man United work on deal to sign Emi Martinez amid Andre Onana exit news

Aston Villa star Emi Martinez continues to be a target for Manchester United.

Ever since crying on the pitch at Villa Park, it has felt as if a move away from B6 has been in the pipeline for the Argentina international.

This has seen a switch to Old Trafford be heavily rumoured after being sent off there on the final day of the Premier League season.

A potential exit for Andre Onana could prove to be the trigger point that could result in Martinez joining the Red Devils this summer.

Martinez deal worked on at Manchester United

There is unlikely to be a single fan from the terraces in B6 who wants to see the 32-year-old leave after such a stellar five-year stint.

It came as a shock to see the keeper cut such an emotional figure, but news of departure talks earlier in the year has taken away the meaning for supporters.

As a result, many associated with the claret and blue outfit are resigned to losing the keeper as the transfer window moves deeper.

This could be set to take a step closer after the Sun on Sunday reported (29 June, page 57) that Ruben Amorim is willing to loan out Onana this summer.

The Portuguese head coach would then go on the lookout for a new number one, with a deal for a replacement already being worked on at Old Trafford.

Martinez is seen as a top target for the Reds as it stands, although the Villans’ transfer fee demands could be a stumbling block.

Manchester United still want Martinez from Aston Villa

It is fair to say that many supporters would be done with the Argentine if he were to join the Red Devils this summer.

There have been numerous other links away which wouldn’t garner the same reaction, but a move to United would not go down well in B6.

A move away from Unai Emery’s outfit to the side that finished 15th in the Premier League and lost in the Europa League final would certainly be bizarre.

It appears that the decision could be in the hands of Martinez, who appears to be welcoming a Man United move at this stage of the window.
