Aston Villa in running as Calvert-Lewin next club odds shared after Everton exit

Aston Villa fans are still waiting for news of new arrivals at Villa Park this summer.

It has been a frustrating transfer window for Villa as no new players have arrived, and a big star may have to be sold to ensure Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) are met.

However, the Villans are believed to be in the running to sign former England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Aston Villa mentioned as Calvert-Lewin exits Everton

Calvert-Lewin announced on Sunday (29 June) that he will be leaving Everton on a free transfer.

He has been playing on Merseyside since 2016, but was unable to agree a new deal and his contract is due to expire at the end of the month.

Following the announcement, bookmakers Bet365 released their odds for those who want to bet on Calvert-Lewin’s next club.

Aston Villa are in the running, albeit some way down at odds of 17-1 for Calvert-Lewin to land at Villa Park.

There are ten clubs with shorter odds than that. Manchester United and Newcastle United are the joint-favourites to sign the 28-year-old at 7-1, followed by Leeds at 10-1.

Villa need more attackers to stand a chance at qualifying for Champions League

Aston Villa are noticeably short of attacking players heading into the new season.

Jhon Duran was sold by Villa in January. Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio were brought in on loan, but have both gone back to their parent clubs.

What’s more, Morgan Rogers is one of the players linked with a big-money move away from Villa Park to help the club balance the books.

If Unai Emery wants to take a punt on Calvert-Lewin, that wouldn’t be the worst move, as he’s available on a free transfer.

However, he can’t be the only attacker added this summer. Not if Villa are serious about qualifying for the Champions League.

At least two or three proven strikers or wingers need to be drafted in to account for the loss of Duran, Rashford and Asensio.

Otherwise, there will be far too much pressure on Ollie Watkins to fire Villa back to the promised land all by himself.
