‘Monchi has days left to secure Aston Villa agreement’ as transfer talks underway

Monchi will need to pull off a masterful display in the transfer market this summer if Aston Villa are to adequately strengthen their squad.

The Spanish chief has become a key figure in B6 in recent years, and he faces his toughest assignment as he looks to work around Villa’s PSR constraints to bring in new faces.

Monchi has faced criticism at times, but it is fair to say that his transfer dealings have played a major role in the Villans’ recent rise, and he will need to be at his best this summer if Unai Emery is to have a stronger squad at his disposal by the opening day of the season.

Villa are in talks with Leipzig over Kosta Nedeljkovic

Player sales have been the major topic of discussion at Villa Park this summer.

A huge range of senior players have been mooted as potential sacrificial sales to address their PSR issues, and amid all the uncertainty, even Monchi’s own future is up in the air.

The 56-year-old must aim to try and balance out Villa’s spending over the last few years, and he has been handed a final opportunity to secure a fee for Kosta Nedeljkovic.

The Serbian spent the majority of last season on loan at RB Leipzig, and the Bundesliga side remains in talks with the Villans over the possibility of keeping him permanently, according to Sky Sports in Germany (27 June).

Leipzig have the option to purchase Nedeljkovic for a total fee of £12.8million, but they hope to negotiate that down.

However, there is a major sense of urgency attached to the deal for both sides, as that option to buy the 19-year-old is set to expire at the end of June.

Villa should accept whatever they can get for Nedeljkovic

Leipzig have been trying to buy Nedeljkovic for some time now, and it feels like the best course of action for all parties if he moves to Germany permanently.

The right-back is unlikely to return to England and become a key player for Emery, such is his lack of top-level experience.

But, given that Villa paid a fee in the region of £6.5m to sign Nedeljkovic, there seems little point in them holding out to try and receive the figure that is specified within the current loan deal.

Any profit to be gained from selling Nedeljkovic for £12.8m would be so insignificant by Premier League standards that it would surely do little to relieve the PSR concerns.

Therefore, it makes more sense for Monchi to accept anything he can get for Nedeljkovic, which would surely at least mean Villa would offset the initial amount they paid for him.
