‘Sawiris and Edens to sell up at Aston Villa’ amid PSR concerns
Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens could be set to complete a somewhat controversial sale at Aston Villa.
The Villans’ owners have come under pressure this summer as PSR concerns have continued to dominate the headlines in B6.
With that in mind, key players have been linked with an exit, with Emi Martinez potentially on his way to Manchester United this summer.
Instead of losing any other star names, NSWE could be set to make a contentious decision to save themselves from any further problems with the Premier League’s financial rules.

NSWE to complete sale of Aston Villa Women’s team
It has felt as if a big deal could be in the pipeline to help steer clear of any punishments, as was also the case 12 months ago.
The sale of Douglas Luiz lives long in the memory and is still at the centre of widespread frustration among the claret and blue faithful.
As a result, avoiding further departures this time around feels necessary, with options as simple as selling the naming rights to Villa Park discussed in recent weeks.
It doesn’t appear that this is in the pipeline, however, as Sawiris and Edens are exploring the sale of the Villa Women’s team to help comply with profitability and sustainability rules [The Athletic, 25 June].
This may have taken a step closer to completion in B6 with V Sport Investments Limited filing a confirmation statement to Companies House on 24 June.
The document states: “The company confirms that its intended future activities are lawful.”
It has to be said that this was submitted on the same exact day in 2024, but it does feel like convenient timing for NSWE this time around.

Aston Villa Women’s team sale in pipeline for NSWE
It felt as if the Villans put all their eggs in one basket with the loan signings of Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford in the January transfer window.
That risk didn’t pay off, and Villa ultimately missed out on Champions League football and the finances that come with that as a result.
Now, Sawiris and Co. have to find new avenues around PSR-related problems to make sure that Unai Emery has a fair chance to succeed moving forward.
Position | Club | Net worth |
1. | Newcastle United | £478billion |
2. | Manchester United | £19.2billion |
3. | Aston Villa | £13.8billion |
4. | Manchester City | £12.9billion |
5. | Chelsea | £12.21billion |
Selling the Women’s side, in a very similar fashion to Chelsea, now feels like the best option to help bring in funds while maintaining the best of the squad.
Keeping the likes of Martinez and Morgan Rogers has to be a priority for the Villans while also avoiding points deductions and fines this summer.
As frustrating as it is for Villa fans, this appears to be the only options for those in charge to ensure Villa steer clear of those dreaded PSR charges.
