Aston Villa show serious intent as Godfrey bid accepted by Arsenal
Aston Villa Women have had a bid accepted for Freya Godfrey by Arsenal.
The Villans had an excellent finish to the Women’s Super League campaign under Natalia Arroyo, as relegation was avoided with ease.
As a result, the Spaniard will be keen to add to her squad in B6 moving into the new season, and that could kick start with the 20-year-old.
The Gunners appear to be willing to allow the England under-23 international to depart in a potential statement of intent at Villa Park.

Aston Villa have Godfrey accepted by Arsenal
There has been no shortage of positive signings in claret and blue as the Women’s team looks to build for the future.
This was showcased by the addition of the likes of Gabi Nunes and Missy Bo Kearns last season, both of whom had largely frustrating campaigns.
As a result, getting the business right this time around is going to be important, especially as Arroyo looks to put her stamp on the squad.
That could begin with reinforcements in forward areas, despite having the wealth of experience with Rachel Daly in the Midlands.
With that in mind, Kathryn Batte has reported (25 June) that London City Lionesses and Aston Villa have had bids accepted by Arsenal for Godfrey.
The Essex-born forward spent the second half of last season on loan with the Women’s Championship winners, making eight appearances.
Year(s) | Team | Appearances |
2023- | Arsenal | 2 |
2023-24 | Charlton Athletic (loan) | 16 |
2025 | London City Lionesses | 8 |
Now, the youngster could swap the Emirates for Villa Park as the B6 club looks to make their presence felt ahead of the new campaign.
Godfrey could now join Aston Villa
There is a need for positive options going forward, especially moving into a season which needs to be much improved in claret and blue.
With Chasity Grant growing as the year went on, the Netherlands international is only likely to improve as she continues to feature for Villa.
With the wingers’ combination play and the addition of Godfrey in the squad, it could prove to be a bright and hopeful time for the Lions.
