Aston Villa to ‘sign Alejandro Garnacho’ as Argentina jump into transfer talks

Aston Villa have been linked to a host of Manchester United attackers this summer.

While Marcus Rashford has gone back to Manchester, this has not stopped Unai Emery from eyeing his teammates at Old Trafford.

Alejandro Garnacho has been linked to Villa since the end of the 2024/25 campaign, with the Argentine already being told he can leave.

As a result, Ruben Amorim banished Garnacho from Man United’s pre-season tour squad as the winger looks for a new club.

Garnacho told not to move to Saudi if he wants World Cup place

Aston Villa have now received a boost in their pursuit of Garnacho, it seems.

The Sunday Mail has reported in its print edition (pg 50, 22 June) that the Argentine has been told not to move to Saudi Arabia as it could threaten his place in the squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Sides in the Middle East are showing interest in the 20-year-old as he looks for a new club, with massive money possibly on the table.

However, Argentina have jumped into talks to tell the winger that they want him to play in a strong league ahead of the World Cup.

As a result, Garnacho does not want to jeopardise his chances of being in the Argentina squad and could move to either Chelsea or Aston Villa.

A number of teams in Spain are also said to be keen on the winger, which could prove to be further competition for Emery.

However, this development could now see Garnacho sign for Villa, with the chances of him moving to Villa Park clearly increasing.

Emery would be taking a risk with Garnacho signing

One of the biggest issues with Garnacho is his attitude. The winger has been known to turn sour if things do not go his way.

The biggest example came after Manchester United’s Europa League final defeat, when the 20-year-old complained to the press about not starting for the match.

If Emery chooses to sign the winger, there is a huge risk that this attitude will follow and dampen the atmosphere in the dressing room.

However, if there is anyone who can improve Garnacho’s attitude, it is the Spaniard who has a track record of bettering players at Villa Park.

All you need to do is look at Rashford for proof of that.
