‘Emi Martinez creates PSR issue’ after Aston Villa transfer twist already

Emi Martinez has been hotly tipped for a move away from Aston Villa this summer as they look to address their financial concerns.

Villa are toeing the line in regards to the Premier League’s PSR restrictions, and that will heavily dictate the moves they are able to make in the transfer market.

A potential remedy for that is to try and oversee a few high-profile exits, and one of those mooted for a potential move away is Martinez.

The Argentine has become one of the world’s best goalkeepers since moving to B6 five years ago, but all the signs are pointing towards him leaving this summer.

Manchester United have previously made contact with Villa, with Saudi Arabian interest also mooted.

Man Utd line up Atalanta goalkeeper amid Martinez links

It seemed as though the former Arsenal man had no future at Villa Park, but there could now be a scenario where Villa end up keeping their star.

Manchester United are now lining up a move for Atalanta shot-stopper Marco Carnessechi, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (20 June).

The Italian journalist adds that Ruben Amorim’s side have initiated contact with the 24-year-old’s agent, but are yet to enter discussions with Atalanta themselves.

If the Old Trafford outfit continue their push for Carnessechi and are ultimately able to secure a deal, they surely wouldn’t then also be able to sign Martinez, given the Villa man’s likely wage demands.

Martinez would also then become embroiled in a situation where he was fighting for a place in the side, which is not something that would be beneficial for him at this stage of his career.

Martinez has created a difficult situation for Villa

It has previously been mooted that Villa should look to sell other players in their squad before they turn to Martinez in their bid to resolve their PSR issues this summer.

Monchi and Co. must ensure they strike a fine balance between addressing those concerns, but also ensuring that Unai Emery is still left with a squad that is capable of competing for European football.

Martinez has established himself as a world-class goalkeeper, and although he is prone to the odd moment of madness, the reality is that he’s far too important for them to lose.

Villa’s situation has been complicated further by the fact that Martinez is refusing to close the door on a potential move to United. They could now be left with a player who wants to leave, only for the club he wants to join not to be willing to facilitate a deal.

If that does prove to be the case, then the Villans surely have no option but to seek out another potential suitor for the Argentine, rather than start the season with him as their number one.

However, this situation ultimately plays out, this is not the kind of exit that many would have expected from the 32-year-old, after such a glowing stint at Villa Park.
