Harvey Elliott torn to shreds for what he did amid Aston Villa transfer speculation

Harvey Elliot has been linked to Aston Villa in recent weeks as Unai Emery seeks to strengthen his squad in the transfer window.

The Liverpool ace helped the Merseyside club lift the Premier League title last season after featuring 28 times in all competitions.

Now, Elliot has demanded more game time, which has sparked speculation about his future at Anfield.

As a result, Villa have been linked with Elliot, but he failed to set the world alight in his recent performance.

Harvey Elliot flops in England Under 21s defeat

The Under 21s European Championship is currently ongoing, with Aston Villa’s Samuel Iling-Junior taking part.

England are the holders of the competition and squeezed into the knockout stages on Wednesday night despite a 2-1 defeat to Germany.

Iling-Junior was slammed for his performance for the Three Lions, as he was hooked off at half-time.

However, the Villa youngster was not alone, with Under 21s captain Elliot also taken off at the break.

When GOAL (18 June) was assessing the players, the outlet did not hold back when rating the Liverpool star.

Gill Clark wrote: “England needed their captain to step up, but he offered very little and it was no surprise to see him hooked at the break.”

Elliot was then awarded a 4/10 for his performance, the joint-lowest on the team.

Aston Villa need to reconsider Elliot approach

While Elliot does have the potential to be a top player in the Premier League, it is clear that he struggles to be a star player when required.

The England Under 21s performance last night was dire, and the squad needed someone to step up.

Instead, Elliot was arguably the worst player on the pitch and was rightly hooked at half-time.

With Villa not having a plentiful transfer budget, it would be a massive risk to spend a big fee on Elliot.

Therefore, Emery must reevaluate his approach for the Liverpool star and look at other options.
